THIRD DAY 10 OCTOBER 2014

OVERVIEW BY ABANG MUAMMAR GHADDAFI

We started the first session with an English Language Class on Accountancy by Andrew Steele. Then we had Peter for  "Planning a lesson or a series of lessons". The third one was "Classroom language and higher order questioning" with Andrew.

Usage of real or factual material content related to the students subject is important as they recognised most of the words used in the material. I am intrigued to use the same method in producing materials for my students in the English Lesson. Planning a good lesson doesn't necessary planning it only for a lesson but a series of lesson throughout the semester. It will provide more time for the students to understand and keep what they learned inside their brain. Classroom language is very important in order to make the lesson a success and understood our lesson.

"THROW SOMEONE IN THE DEEP END"
BY KHAIRUN NISAH (KAK K)

Did you know what‘TEST-TEACH-TEST’ is? Well, pose something difficult and unfamiliar to your students. Test them and see how much they know and what is in their schemata. Yes, throw them in a deep end and observe either they swim or they sink. If they can’t swim, guide them and teach them to swim before they sink. When they are out of difficulty, test them again. Now see the difference it makes. Have they learnt, gained the knowledge and developed the skills?

That was what happened in Slot 1 on Day 3 with our home tutor, Andrew. He threw us in a deep end, struggling with jargons used in Accountancy. Initially, terms like Statutory Financial Accounts and Management Accounts were quite foreign but he took us on an exploration through a series of activities so we got ourselves familiarised with lots more terms related to accounting and auditing. Hence, we escaped from being thrown in the pan!

3RD SESSION BY ADREW STEELE
